St Patrick's Day 2025

For the first time ever, the Old Borough National School took part in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Swords on Monday 17th March! It was a fantastic day, with many children and parents joining us on the day to celebrate St. Patrick!

Everyone met at the school at 9:45 am to get their faces painted and to gather some PE equipment and musical instruments to bring on the walk with us. Once everyone had something that represented the school, we journeyed up to the Christian Brothers which was the starting point for the parade.

The parade begun shortly after 11 am. It was great to see so many familiar faces in the crowd and the school got an excellent reception while marching down the street. The children played the musical instruments, clapped, cheered, high-fived and danced their way from the top of Main Street to the beginning of North Street. We finished at Swords Castle and all of the children got a photo beside it.

Once the parade was over, we all returned to school. A huge thank you to Gillian for organising the hall and welcoming all the marchers back with tea, coffee, sweets and buns. Many people hung around to chat while the children played with the PE equipment. It was lovely to see other children and families who were in the parade with other groups come back to the school to share the fun with their friends.

It was a really special day. Some of the children mentioned how it was their first time being in the parade and how they had always wanted to be in it. Many parents commented on the lovely atmosphere and sense of community created on the day. We were really thrilled with how the day turned out and hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did.

A final thank you to the PTA for their help with the event on the day. We could not do these things without the support of our wonderful parents.
