Small Schools Invitational Cup
On Friday 23rd May 2025, twelve children from 5th and 6th Class took part in the Small Schools Invitational Cup. This was the first time that our school has taken part in the competition, which was set up during COVID and has grown legs since.
All of the children from 5th and 6th Class, both team and supporters, met at 8:15 am to get the bus to Clontarf. Once we got there, we had a chance to warm up before taking part in fierce games against Howth Road, Lindsay Road, Glasnevin NS, Drumcondra NS, St. Columba's NS and Finglas Parochial School. The children played against each team and were unbeaten, winning four games and drawing two. The children were delighted to hear that their hard work in the matches had paid off and that they would face Glasnevin in a final match to decide the competition winners.
There were some nerves going into the final but the children gave it their all and were delighted to come away with the trophy after a 4-0 win over a brilliant Glasnevin team. Team captain, Sophie, was thrilled to accept the Cup on the school's behalf and the children received a hearty congratulations from the other teams at the tournament.
Mr. Donovan and Mrs. Grogan were communicating during the competition to let the school know how the team were getting on. When they heard the news back at school, they made a lovely banner to welcome the children back and gave them a guard of honour as they returned to school.
It was a brilliant day, fantastically organised by Ann Creaner, former principal of St. Columba's NS, and Martha Wolmington, current principal of Howth Road.
Well done to all of the children who took part, they played really well in every game, but, even more importantly, their sense of teamwork, kindness, and sportsmanship shone through from the first game to the last. We were also very impressed with the students who came to watch. They enthusiastically cheered the team on from the sideline, chanting, clapping, and waving pre-made banners to spur the team to victory.
