    Healthy Eating at a Glance

    �� Key Points

    • Nut-Free School – no nuts or nut products allowed.
    • Hot School Meals – free daily hot meals from The Lunch Bag. Parents may opt out and provide a healthy packed lunch.
    • Water Only – children bring a reusable water bottle (no cans or glass).
    • Treats – one small treat allowed on Fridays only. Special occasions = occasional extra treat.
    • No food swapping – for safety, especially with allergies.
       

    �� What a Healthy Lunch Looks Like

    Fruit & Vegetables – apples, bananas, berries, carrot sticks, cucumber, peppers.
    Protein – cheese, eggs, tuna, chicken, hummus, beans.
    Carbohydrates – wholemeal bread, wraps, pasta, rice, crackers.
    Drinks – water or milk.

    Not Allowed – fizzy drinks, chewing gum, nuts/nut products.
    No Treats midweek – only on Fridays.


    ��‍��‍�� Parents’ Role

    • Inform teacher of allergies/dietary needs each year.
    • ​​​​​​​Provide healthy snacks/lunches or choose hot school meals.
    • Support sustainability: use reusable bottles, lunchboxes, no clingfilm/foil.
      ​​​​​​​Check what food comes home uneaten, and adjust meals accordingly.

    �� Children’s Role

    • Eat their own lunch (no swapping/sharing).
    • ​​​​​​​Bring home waste & packaging.
    • Use reusable bottles/containers.
       

    �� School’s Role

    • Provide healthy hot meals.
    • ​​​​​​​Teach about nutrition, hygiene, and active living.
    • Model healthy eating habits.
       

    �� Tip: A good rule of thumb = 1 portion of fruit, 1 portion of veg, 1 protein, 1 carb, and water.
